1. Briefly explain the meaning of "speck of sawdust" and "plank" mentioned by Jesus in 7:3-5.

2. What is with the bread, stone, fish, and snake given in 7:9-11? How does this help us understand the character of God and his relationship with us?

3. In 7:12, what does Jesus basically say is the summary of the entire Old Testament (Law and Prophets)? Why is this such an important principle for how we live and how we treat others?

4. There is an important warning in 7:21-23. Discuss how knowing Jesus - and being known by him - is the key.

5. A wise and a foolish builder are mentioned towards the end of the chapter. These contrasting images have to do with the words of Jesus - explain this.

6. Why, specifically, were the crowds amazed by Jesus' teaching?

This concludes our brief look at the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). This is a remarkable and famous section of Scripture. As you reflect personally on the reading, what aspect of the sermon do you find most striking?
