1. In 9:2, it is noteworthy that Jesus saw the faith of the friends. Is it true of us that, our faith, can bring blessing to our friends? And if so, how?

2. In 9:4 we learn that Jesus knew the thoughts of those who opposed him. Maybe it's an uncomfortable idea, that Jesus knows YOUR thoughts, but at a deeper level, maybe it's actually comforting. No need to fake something or try to hide. If you can, discuss this a little bit.

3. Jesus was eating with the "wrong" people - this was a big deal in the 1st century. To check the Pharisees, what does he say about a doctor and what verse does he quote?

4. Two daughters are mentioned in 9:18-26 - Jesus does incredible things in both cases. Why is he laughed at? (And, upon leaving the house of the synagogue leader, do you think he might have been tempted to say something like, "Whose laughing now?")

5. Often, after Jesus does something miraculous, he asks the person not to share their story (e.g. Matt. 9:30). Any idea why?

6. From 9:14-17 and 9:32-33, in what way is Jesus doing a "new" thing?

7. From 9:35, we notice that, as he travelled everywhere, Jesus was teaching - proclaiming - healing. What does Matthew tell us about Jesus' compassion? Do you - honestly - feel like he has compassion for you?
