Day 44 - Romans 11 ("If by grace")

  1. According to v. 6, if we are accepted by God "by grace," then it cannot be based on what?

  2. Does some of the misunderstanding mentioned in vv. 7-10 remind you of Jesus teaching in parables? Discuss this if you can.

  3. What does Paul mean by the word "envious" in v. 11? In a sense, how is it a good thing?

  4. What is Paul's goal in v. 14? As far as you can tell, does he work hard towards this objective?

  5. Does vv. 17-21 remind you of Jesus' teaching that he is the true vine? Find that passage in John's gospel and read it.

  6. Explain the "kindness" and "sternness" of God. What does this mean?

  7. As we have seen elsewhere in the book of Romans, we see here the theme of God's mercy. What is the effect of this in v. 30-32?

  8. Write or type or read out loud (slowly) the section of doxology (vv. 33-36). Why strikes you from these verses?
